AKC Invitational

newfire's picture

Can't help myself. For the second year I either own and handle or bred the top 3 Lakeland terriers in AKC agility in the US. I am really happy that Nikki (Pippen's sister) is #1 with Shadow a close second. Pippen (my bred by dog) came in third. The invitations came yesterday. Really very cool - with the invite made out to the specific dog with the info filled in.

Must admit I am tempted but it is a very long and expensive trip! I would have to show Pippen at 12" and at that height he would probably kill me!! Anyway- I have worked very hard to help people get lakelands for performance and it is finally starting to pay off!! Next year there will be 2 or 3 more out there competing. For a breed with such a small number of litters per year its great!!

Re: AKC Invitational

A hugh congratulations! Being strictly  lab person I had no idea what your little guys are.

Its such a great accomplishment and life is so short, I think you should go for it. You could take one of them and fly in cabin. Take out a loan, you have the  rest of your live to pay it off. (VBG)

Re: AKC Invitational

Hi Elizabeth,

That is awesome! I agree...no regrets...you've earned it, and should take the opportunity if there is any way you can!

Tim and Kala will be there again this year, and I will be there with Sue to cheer them on. It would be great to meet you there, and be rooting for you as well!!!

Hope you can make it work!

Congratulations!

Re: AKC Invitational

Thank you all!! It would be great to come. I brought Shadow out the year the AKC nationals was in LA - she flew in the cabin. NEVER again. Every time she smelled food she would huff and fuss. Chris used his frequent flyer miles to upgrade my ticket so I could fly first class and of all things they baked chocolate chip cookies. I thought my dog carrier would explode..... was like something out of the alien - very stressfull. I was lucky - my seat mate was a very understanding guy with dogs as were the people sitting on top of Shadow. She was marginally better on the red eye on the way back (althought I was beside a cat lover who spent most of the flight trying to get the dog loving stewardess to throw Shadow off the plane.... If I fly them they will travel in luxury and space in their vari kennels in the hold!!! ......elizabeth

Re: AKC Invitational

That's too funny!   Most of us with larger dogs would die to have them with us in the cabin!!!

Re: AKC Invitational

Congratulations, Elizabeth and the Lakies!

I know it could be hard to fly out to the Invitational, but I would try my best to go, if I'd be you.

Invitational is such a unique event where different breeds of dogs can shine and show what they can do in Agility.

I only wish they would also invite the Top-5 Mixed breeds..

Alright, back to reality now..

Olga.

Re: AKC Invitational

I just was not able to swing it!!  Just as well as I am now in the middle of trying to get my Mother organized in assisted living which is keeping me away from work for longer than I would like!  (problems with having family in another country!!) However it looks like I will be able to swing a trip to California next spring ... so maybe Wisp , Pippen and I will get a chance to meet our virtual heros!!
