What's you favorite class?

Hi guys,

This is a question for all the students:  What's you favorite class to run in competition? and why?

Please take your time to elaborate on the above topic, knowing more about my students helps me provide better instruction for you all.

P.S.: as for me, in case you were wondering, I like USDAA DAM Team events best, because of the team spirit.

favorite class

I do love DAM tornament event but you do have to be careful in your teammates. There are some people who can be really stressfull to be around which makes it less fun!!!

As far as an individual class is concerned I really cannot decide between Steeplechase and snooker. Snooker is such a great 'mind' game with a premium of thinking on your feet or changing your plan to go for that super Q. To get a plan , go for it and get through it all the way to the last 7 is a rush!! For me the appeal of the steeplechase is the adrenaline rush of speed. I have always loved jumpers and adding contacts and weaves to the jumpers makes it more rewarding for my dogs! I guess the other factor is that I have been very successful in both classes so the 'human' reinforcement factor has been quite high.

The flip side of the coin is the class I like the least which for me is gamblers. Running small dogs at a distance when the handling challenge is turning away from the handler usually towards a 'group of herding dogs' all staring intently at my dog is quite a difficult challenge for a mini! When the judge has the gamble set so that you are not working directly at the crowd then the class is alot more fun!!.............elizabeth

Favourite Class

When I started agility I had a rescued mixed breed with very little confidence.  I couldn't even do a rear cross without him pullling off the jump.  After a lot of hard work, he was able to work at a distance and eventually, he ended up at one point being the top gamblers dog in our area.  I guess because of this accomplishment and how hard we worked at it, I've always loved Gamblers.  In addition, with both him and my aussie, this was one class where with good distance skills and a good strategy, I had a chance to beat the faster dogs in the class.  Now that I am running my young BC, I still love Gamblers because it comes so naturally to her and because I worked so hard on directionals, we had immediate success at it.  It really does come naturally for most BC's!  Here in Canada, I think it is even more fun because all of our Gamblers courses include "mini gambles" in the opening so you usually get a chance to try out your distance skills in the opening and the closing.

I also love Steelplechase because it gives the dogs a chance to really open up and run!

What's you favorite class?

My favourite class is standard agility I like the fact that there is a set course and the object is to work out a way to go around that course as fast as possible without making mistakes. Also most skills that we learn in training have to be utilized, at the time of the handlers choosing , during the course

Tom,

I am afraid I am very ignorant about the classes offered in australia.  Do you have classes like snooker or gamblers?  ..............elizabeth

Favorite Class?

I have to stick with Tom on this one, I like the standard runs. They make you do the planning which really helps with the other games.

But in saying that I find gamblers a rush because I have to really plan my course to put me in the right place at the right time in order to do the gamble and make it flow and stick with that plan.

Steeplechase and Jumpers are always good ones, at the trials that we run around here there are some of us that like to put a dollar in the pot (fastest/cleanest run takes all).

Team, as Olga says is great, it is a team event and you get to work out strategy with someone.

Snooker was one of my worst games and then all of a sudden something just clicked and we did well, you have to plan the runs just like standard and again stick with that plan but the twist is think fast on your feet and have plan "B".

Favorite Class

My favorite class is Standard style courses, where, as someone earlier posted, because I get to use a larger variety of skills to run successfully.  This preference also includes Steeplechase and Grand Prix.  My springer has running contacts, so Standard style courses are a venue that he can sometimes win. This is less likely in a JWW course in a class of super fast BCs.    Also, in JWW I sometimes get lost in a sea of jumps.  HA

Favorite class

I have to add that my favorite class is not the same as the classes we do the best in.  My favorite class is snookers because of the statagy, but one we have difficulty executing.  I also like Grand Prix because on the compeition and I can keep my dog on track more with the different obstacles.  The class I dislike the most is jumpers - very difficult for us to have a clean run - no control points.
