Has anyone layered the tunnel? i have been working on the exercises but cant out run Bailey even with a lead out from the AF. It works if I layer the tunnel. Sue, Alicia, any reason it wouldn't work for you? Do i have it set up wrong?

Cheers,

Jean

Re: Question re: 16

I did layer the tunnel, not sure if it shows up on the video or not.  I layered first then I ran with, it works both ways.  I think when Tim did it with Gina he layered.  In order to run you really have to run!  In this case, as long as your dog reads the jumps after the AF, once you load them you can layer the tunnel.  ffluffy

Re: Question re: 16

When I set this up there was about 10 feet between the tire and the tunnel entrance.  Rather than layer I sent the dog to the tire as I was backing up to the tunnel, very similar to what Alicia did.  I set this up in my class and a couple of my students layered it but if you are at all early with your turn to the tunnel its very easy to pull the dog off the tire.  Also, the dogs seemed to have a tighter turn from the tire when the handler was in a little closer, I guess because the handler was decelerating more.  Also, I found it much easier to get ahead of my dog in that sequence by using a f/c after the aframe.  This allowed you to keep moving the whole time.   I did video it but I wasn't sure whether I should post it.   Wendy

Re: Question re: 16

You should post the video!  I think we all learn from watching each other.  ffluffy

Re: Question re: 16

I watched the video and none of the ones where I layered are on there but I did do it and it works just fine.  ffluffy

Re: Question re: 16

just got back from training at Val's again, and it was still lesson 16 set up but I had to modify it a bit.  I put the angel where the tunnel is because the tunnel was in the shed and I put weaves where the coyote was.  I swear it matters how tight the box is and the angles because Pick read my loads into the box great but in class he screwed up that box a lot.  ffluffy

Re: Question re: 16

I'm so jealous that you're not working Wink

It was nice meeting you in OR, Pickle looks even faster in person - what amazing turns he does!  Phoenix flew off every teeter that weekend (except gamblers where I could repeat it) including the GP run!  Unfortunately, I thought that it was 10 faults so figured we were out already - BAD HANDLER!  And I stopped concentrating and made her run around a jump.  I loved watching all those great handlers though.

BTW, how did you guys make out in team with Ken?

Re: Question re: 16

Thanks guys.  The angles make a big difference. I intentionally made the box big because as Olga mentioned in the video, it is more of a challenge. I don't have a double so used a triple instead. Kody has no trouble reading the 270 but   Bailey does so we have work to do.  I had put his kiddy pool too close so had a funny moment as he went over the triple into the pool and made the turn over the jump. Laughing

PS After re-watching Picks run, I see I have the tire  too close to the end of the tunnel which would account for my difficultly.

Cheers,

Jean

I went to the dogs chiropractor yesterday, in desperation so hopefully I will be able to run. They get adjusted monthly, me never. LOL.

Re: Question re: 16

It's interesting to hear the comments about the lessons. I'm sure everyone sets the course a little differently and it can make the challenges easier or harder. When I first set up Lesson 16 I could tell it wasn't quite right because there was no way I had room to lay 2 jump bars on the ground as Olga did in the Lesson 1 video. So I readjusted it until it looked more like what I thought I saw on the video.

I worked on Ex2 of Lesson 16 this morning. The 270 seemed a lot harder to get than for the dogs on the virtual lesson. Jaldi being only 13" tall obviously does not have a BC stride so I didn't expect her to make the wide turn. I had to manage that section a bit more. I had my friend try it with her 2 Kelpies and she could not get the front cross after the 270. Her dogs were not making as wide a turn over the double and she had to go into the pocket and stay there longer than the virtual students. After rewatching the virtual lesson I realized that it is not so much how I set the course as it is how much room there is after the double. The fence of my training area is only about 20 ft from the double and the dogs are probably shortening their stride because of it. If I had more space they would proabably stay extended over the double.
