Hello!

Hi Everyone!

My name is Martha Caldwell from way out here in Cleveland Ohio. My dog is a German Shepherd named Bear who loves frisbee, swimming and of course, agilty. I think maybe he was Border Collie in a former life. We have been going to agility trials since February 07. We got off to kind of a rough start, Bear, tends to be drawn to tunnels and the climbing wall but lately he has been able to contain his enthusiasum a little better and stay on course and is beginning to qualify. We have a three day AKC trail starting tomorrow so hopefully the good trend will continue!

I look forward to getting to know everyone and learning more about this sport Bear and I love.

Have a great day!

Martha

Re: Hello!

Welcome Martha!  Sounds like Bear is just like every other novice agility dog, sucking to tunnels and having a good time.  Have you set up lesson 16?  The box is starting to pop up in trials all over the place.  Have fun.  ffluffy

Re: Hello!

Thanks!  He is slowly but surely getting more controlled.  We qualified one in Novice JWW and once in Novice standard last weekend which is a huge improvement over last time.  We would have qualified two more time but Bear knocked down some jumps near the end of his standard and JWW course.  Does anyone have any suggestions for how to work on this?  I'd appreciate any advice.  Thanks so much!!

Re: Hello!

Hi Martha,

Knocking bars is a normal thing to happen to a keen novice dog. Don't worry. Prepare to take your time and teach Bear the nuances of jumping and teamwork. It's a fun journey to do Agility with your dog.

Please post a video of Bear when you can.

Olga.
