Jean vs Tunnel / Jean 0 Tunnel 2

Olga-ism #143 Never try to block the tunnel entrance, it just calls your dogs attention to it.

Last weeks Exc JWW course started with 4 straight jumps to a left turn.then left to poles. Parallel and in front of the poles was a big juicy tunnel. Bailey came flying over the jumps and in an effort to get the turn I held my ground and rotated my body , to my horror I realized I hadn't gone forward enough and was positioned with my back leg blocking the tunnel entrance. Well I guess "blocking" is not quite accurate as it didn't stop Bailey from going in, I have a nice bruise to show for it.

Olga-ism #144 Never try to out run your 70 pound dog unless you have a big head start.

The Std run featured a straight tunnel then out to a parallel jump to the left. In a momentary lapse of sound judgment i decided I could beat Kody to the exit and send him out to the jump. It happen so fast, I am not sure if I slipped in the dirt or if we collided but I landed flat on my face. I was up in a flash, as Kody was on his way over to sit on me. He has done it before. Must be a Service Dog thing." Human down, sit on them till help arrives.(VBG) We finished the course well under SCT, with a refusal because he turned away from the jump when I fell. RATS!!.

Olga-ism #145 Old people should have small dogs.

No way!! Ben-gay works just fine, thank you.

PS check out http://www.limecreek.com/fastlabs/ Thats my Bailey boy under Fast Labs Finishing 1st and 2nt.

Cheers,

Jean

Way to go Jean! Is there going to be a rematch?

And now then, I didn't say "old people should have small dogs", I said: "older people may want to have smaller dogs", and I said to you, if you decide to get another dog you should look for a smaller lab, ;-)..

P.S.: Congrats to Bailey for finishing at the top of the Fast Labs list!

No rematch, I do try to learn from my mistakes.  I stand corrected

Olga-ism #145  older people may want to have smaller dogs

Jean sez clumsy people may want to have bigger dogs so they don't squish them and have big Vet bills. LOL.

Thanks for the congrads,I am proud of him. We have to have a clean EXC STD run at 4YPS or better to move to the Fastest Lab list. Do you think its possible without running contacts?

Cheers,

Jean

OK, peace, ;-)..

Sure it's possible for Bailey to have a clean EX STD run @ 4 yps or better without running contacts. Let's work on the "clumsy" part first, ;-)..

Very cool, that would be so exciting. I realize tighter turns and faster tables will help. You already have us running the straight lines very well.

Cheers,

Jean

Jean,

4 yps is nothing for your Bailey boy. Don't fret about it, just train and learn to handle better, enjoy the runs, and you'll have your 4 yps sooner then you think, ;-)..

I have to agree with Olga on that one.....You and Bailey boy are going to be on that Very Fast List before you know it!

Jean...this totally cracked me up! And on so many levels!

....the olga-isms....I think we should start a log of them! Here's one that just came to mind:

Olga-ism #152....when practicing a front cross at the end of the weave poles, you must not get your finger stuck in the pole.....(how do I possibly own up to explaining this one???)

....you are very good at painting a picture...I was there at that tunnel entrance at that 'oh crap' moment, and you know, I woke up this morning with a bruise on my leg, but I have no idea how I got it!

Bailey sounds like a kick. I'm sure I'll get to meet you both some day at a trial.

Becky,

You have let the cat out of the bag. Kari, with Emmy, and I started exchanging  Olga-isms , a while back. Olga has such sage advice we started calling it an Olga-ism or if there is something on the video we don't understand we say it must be an Olga-ism, "Mothra" was an Olga-ism until we found out its a nickname for Yankee. LOL.

Now its time to "own up". How does one get a finger caught in a weave pole?

Gotta go. Bailey was bitten by an insect and I spent the weekend nursing him back to heath. His head was swollen up so much he looked like a shar-pei (sp?) Now that the Benadryl is wearing off he is terrorizing Kody.Sigh

Be sure to let me know when you are trialling in the LA area, we go up there chasing USDAA Qs. I would love to meet you and the fur kids.

Cheers,

Jean

Re: Jean vs Tunnel / Jean 0 Tunnel 2

Hi Jean,

Well, it is just a shade embarrassing...but a few years back Olga was helping me to work on my timing with front crosses at the end of weave poles...this was one of my least favorite things,so Olga said we'd "roll up our sleeves" and figure out where the problem was. At some point, once I'd figured out "when" I should cross, I found i was really wide at the end of the cross. So, Olga suggested that I stick my finger in pole #12 as I pivoted around it, to help me maintain my position. That worked great, except that my finger got stuck. The pole came out with my finger, which as you can imagine, left us with one of those memories that you can't ever live down. Small weave poles? Big fingers? Both? Who knows. But we still laugh about it every so often, and when I walk my courses, I ALWAYS think about that, and always chuckle.

So that's my little story. Feels a little like confession, except I'm not catholic...

I was raised Catholic, so maybe thats why i have no problems confessing. (VBG) Great story. Good reason to have caps on top of the poles.

Cheers,

Jean
