Here is a very scary picture of Kody as a Novice coming very close to losing his footing on the DW. I am standing there with my heart in my throat trying to figure out how I was going to get my big boy off safely. The following week we attended a Chris Zink seminar ad one of the exercises was the DW. She filmed us going up the approach 3 times, Kody was one of 2 dogs who consistently had his back legs spread too far apart. She said the solution was to get out of the way and don't push the the Novice dogs for speed. End of issue for us. I think that is what Olga was saying in her post about letting the dogs learn how to maneuver..
