Lesson 15 Pinwheel

Here is a video of our efforts on the Pinwheel exercise.  I thought Libby and Belle did very well.  Dusty's finish to the tire improved dramatically from last night (basically because I remembered to not get in so close at the first jump in the straight away finish that I had to move laterally to avoid the wing of the second to last jump).  However, I did have problems with Dusty missing a jump in the pinwheel because he came in toward me.

Lesson 15, Exercise 1 All My Dogs

I had enough time to set the course and watch the first two videos and then go out and run all four of my dogs.  What a great way to build speed and enthusiasm in the dogs.  I started working with Max again about three weeks ago, just doing a little here and there with him.  It was very difficult for me to run Max when we were trialing because he was so easily distracted.  I decided to work with him again to see if I could improve my training skills.  This sequence contains more jumps in a row than he has done in three years, and he seemed to enjoy himself thoroughly.

Lesson 14 Tunnel Maze - Dusty

I was hoping to see this run by one of my virtual classmates before giving it a try.  However, here’s what I came up with for Dusty.  I was extremely pleased with how easily Dusty read my intent from the panel jump to the weaves.

A Little Brag

Hi, All:

I just wanted to post a little brag. We went to a NADAC trial last weekend and did pretty well for ourselves. The trial was held in a large indoor sports complex and there was a volleyball tournament going on at the same time, so it was extremely noisy. I resorted to Rescue Remedy for Dusty--the first time in a long time. "Soft" Libby seemed to take the noise more in stride.

Dusty & Libby - NADAC Trial 04/08/2007

DAY TWO:  Libby’s Elite Jumpers run was going so well until I was late calling her on the jump after the tunnel, thus incurring an off-course.  Dusty, however, received his first Elite Jumpers Q with a second place.  The elite standard courses on Saturday were the same as the open standard courses – just tighter times and the distance line a little further out.  On Sunday, the elite courses were tough, especially the distance challenges.

Dusty & Libby NADAC Trial 04/07/07

The dogs and I went to our first NADAC trial since the fiasco of New Year’s Eve.  Saturday went pretty well with Libby Q’ing in Elite Jumpers for the first time in a year!  Libby also Q’ed in her second Elite Regular run in spite of me being woefully behind when she comes out of the tunnel in the distance challenge.  This represents Libby’s first Elite Regular Q since July, 2006.  I was very proud of her for being able to go back out to the corr

Lesson 12 #4 & #5 - Dusty

Exercise #4 went really well for both dogs, although Dusty brought down the bar before the WP as he caught up to me and leaped into the air.

Lesson 12 Exercise 2 - Dusty

I didn’t look at my notes from the virtual classroom before running this exercise, and I ended up handling the tunnel thru weave pole entrance sequence in a variety of ways—most of which sucked : (  The only one that worked was keeping the dog on my left as he/she came out of the tunnel and running in an arc toward the right standard of jump 5 and then doing a rear cross.  The biggest problem with this maneuver was the speed needed to get far enough beyond jump 6 to let Dusty

Dusty - Open Standard 03/17-18/2007

This set of three clips is Dusty in Open Standard.  I do believe that we will be here a long, long, loooong time.  Friday’s run was a non-Q, but he did make his contacts.  On the second day, Dusty was in melt down mode when I took him from his crate.  He was shifting from leg to leg like an over-wrought horse.  I was truly amazed when he was able to take direction on the Excellent JWW course.  I was expecting him to p
