Phoenix - Lesson 7 - Serpentine Course 2

Phoenix did really well on this I think. I could see improvement in her serpentine and/or my timing.  I felt like I wasn't doing the lead out to the first set of poles quite right - like I was in her way.  She did well on the discrimination.

Xena - Lesson 7 - Serpentine Course 2

This is Xena doing the 2nd course.  After the first take I noticed her poles were very unmotivated and I thought about what Olga said about getting them motivated.  In the 2nd take I put more effort in and I think there was a big improvement.  She didn't cue the first time to the 2nd set of weaves.  I thought I gave a timely come but she didn't respond.

Xena - Lesson 7 - Serpentine Course 1

Thought Xena did a good job on this one but seemed a little deflated in the poles

Phoenix - Lesson 7 - Serpentine Course 1

We seemed to have some awfully hard ticks on the bar after the weave poles.  Note to self, don't chew gum and try to do agility, halfway through the first take I inhaled my gum and almost choked.  Pretty sure Niels would have kept on filming with me rolling on the ground, lol!  I thought Phoenix did a really good job on the last take so I rewarded her with a little JRT!

Xena - Lesson 7 - Serpentine

You can tell Xena has more experience and does naturally default to the serpentine.

Phoenix - Lesson 7 - serpentine

This is Phoenix doing Lesson 7.  As you can see, the serpentine is obviously not an automatic pattern for her but it definitely improved with repetition.

Lesson 7 serpentine--Daisy

Daisy has a hard time getting her mind off of her toy.  Olga, do you have another behavior besides "speak" to use at the start?  (Neither of my girls will do it, will sit silently and watch me forever).

Lesson 7 serpentine--Emmy

Guess who we trained with today??  Since Emmy is not training for a hunt test, she had more zip than her friend, Caper.  I had not trained Em on directionals (left and right), because I have used them as such a crutch with Daisy.  I wanted Emmy to learn to read my body movements.  But after being involved with Agility Dynamite, I decided it was time to teach them and we started not very long ago.  After Emmy kept turning left at the lattice (and knocking the bar), I tried "right" for the first time in an exercise, and she did it!  Good girl!  I was also pleased that she

Caper's Serpentine

Here's Caper and Helen, trying to execute a serpentine. It's 26 degrees and the snow has a crunchy top layer. Caper, who is also training for his Senior Hunter title, spent four hours the day before running through the sagebrush, breaking through crunchy snow looking for pheasant. His feet hurt! He still tries hard to please.... bless his heart!

Lesson 7 course 2 , 1 Pippen

Glad I was finally able to set up more of what was intended!!  I thought leading out with dog on right made for a better weave pole entrance for the second course.  I also liked being able to *push* the dog towards the tunnel rather than pull.  The first try Pippen gave me the tunnel, then he was quite funny realizing that I wanted something else he started offering other behaviours!  He then decided that he needed to pay close attention to me which is why he peeled off the jump.  I had to laugh.  We have not been practicing our DW (had it low for the puppy to play around).  Clearly I w
