Emmy AF update

We are ready to learn a "proper" aframe---one where Emmy drives to the bottom, is NOT handler dependent, and understands her 2o2o position.  Olga, these are our efforts from this morning, trying to follow what you suggested.  Her tugging at the bottom wasn't very inspired....At the end, we raised the aframe to competition height and did 3 as we would try to do in a trial, since we are leaving tomorrow for one (and poor Emmy must be so mixed up at this point).

Re: Emmy AF update

definitely looks soo much better! She seems to somewhat now know where her position is. She obviously loves it when you are in front of her, maybe try and do that more often until she knows to get into her position faster? great job, awesome improvement...she really is an amazing agility dog!

Thank, Helen.  The agility gods were certainly smiling on me when I contacted Jean and ended up with one of Bailey's little sisters!

Re: Emmy AF update

Hi Kari,

Hope your trial efforts were a success.

Helen is right, you and Emmy have made very good progress with the AF training. However, it will take a LOT OF TIME for the skill to take and solidify.

Please keep practicing the same routine (you can set up a different little course to make it fun).

Areas in need of immediate improvement:

1. You are still late to the bottom of the AF. Emmy still "waits" for you at the top. Please either run faster or lead out more.

2. Stop overrunning the end of the AF. The whole idea is to "beat" the dog to the contact and wait there with the tug toy ready for her to grab. When I say, "go to the contact", that means you should be within 12" from the tip of the AF, not 12 feet, ;-).. This is to give the dog an incentive to drive to the contact position. Otherwise, if I'd be the dog, why bother?..

3. Tug with more GUSTO and enthusiasm. Make a real effort to tug the dog off the contact. If you succeed, tug her back on. You can say, "Oops!" (or whatever NRM you use), when you manage to tug her off the contact, and you are welcome to click when you tug her back on.

Olga.

Re: Emmy AF update

Thanks, Olga.  I can see that we have lots and lots of work to do.  She blew her bridge contact twice at the trial last weekend  :-(   I appreciate the advice on areas needing immediate improvement and will get started!
