Is this a good exercise for Wisp with a low DW and hoops? (I am thinking of the jump come cookie to provide straight approach , then walk it throw toy, becasue of running DW contacts, party and repeat!)..... elizabeth
Have you tried this with Wisp, yet? I was thinking about how to do it with Jaldi, too. She is probably about the same level as Wisp with the dogwalk: low height and running under a hoop to a toy. I made a toy I can throw and drives her nuts. I will put a video up later. Basically appeals to her terrier instincts.Â
I tried pieces of it! I wanted to make sure I had the turn and come to front first and the first couple of times I did and we did the jump turn front send over the dw party ... then wispy decided that she didn't have to come to me... she KNEW what was up so she could cut behind me and run over the dw. well we stopped at that point and just worked a little attention and a few waits then stopped for a bit. I had fun with Pippen- couldn't do any front crosses before he took the jump (running contacts) but it was great for working my directionals at speed!!! Try it with Jaldi after all it is a game - you could soften the angles of the jumps so that it is less important to have them line up then have her race you .... that would certainly appeal to her ...earthydog instincts!
I tried the dogwalk shuttle this morning. We stopped after every dogwalk to play. Then send over the jump and wrap. Wrap she already knows pretty well. I've spent quite a bit of time early this year doing single jump work. I used her new toy (check out the "How to drive a terrier crazy" video. Her dogwalk might have been a little slower. I didn't get to tape because my tape is full. I'll probably try it again tomorrow. I did the front crosses before the dogwalk while she was wrapping since at this point we are doing a running contact. I'll probably try it again tomorrow and tape it. I want to see if she is maintaining her speed on the dogwalk without having the lure of the toy on the whip out there.
