Phoenix & Xena, Lesson 6, The Course

This is Phoenix & Xena doing the main course for Lesson 6.

As you can see with Phoenix, I was not waiting long enough to get her committed to the first tunnel anticipating getting to the turn to the jump and moving too soon.  Again, I already mentioned we were having problems with our aframe contact.  She did fine on the front cross from the weaves to the pinwheel but I think maybe our angle was a little easier??  The first time through the pinwheel she ran around the 3rd jump.  I found it really hard to get around the jump before the 2nd set of weaves to do the rear cross but she did it well when I finally got into position.

With Xena I tried the rear cross but it was more efficient to handle the 2nd weave entry more as a serpentine than a rear cross so I could keep driving her.  I think it was faster handled as a serp.

It was a really fun course!

Awesome runs with both your dogs!!  It WAS a fun course to run.  In the opening I found it better to try to get a little more lateral distance and do more of a send to the second tunnel.  That gave me more time to keep moving at an even pace past the A frame (which both Pip and Shadow do at a run) to the weave entry.  The second set of weaves looks a little harder without the tire since the tire actually helps frame the weave entrance better than a 5' jump!  Nice line from the weaves to the last jump with both your dogs! .........................elizabeth

Thanks!  I wish all courses were that open!  It so much fun to really run!  My aussie gets very demotivated by courses that are too tight and don't have flow, especially if the tight section is at the beginning of the course!

Can't wait to try # 7!

Re: Phoenix & Xena, Lesson 6, The Course

Hi Wendy,

I am with you, this course is just a ton of fun for both humans and dogs, ;-)..

Nevermind the little mistakes and miscommunications, like Phoenix running around the 3rd jump of the pinwheel. I tad more support on your behalf would have done it.. You run you learn, ;-)..

I am not sure if your angle from the first set of poles to the pinwheel was easier or not, but substituting the tire with a jump made it easier for the dog to adjust for the line change indicated by the f/x. At the same token, that same jump made it hard for you to get to your r/x before the second set of poles, so.. fair trade? ;-)..

Xena surely enjoyed herself a great deal running this course. I like the last take she did.. as far as the finish went.
