Pippen AKC BRAC day 2

We came to the line tugging with very good focus.  I felt I really had to have that as the opening (tire, jump) set the dog on a line directly to the off course tunnel.  My plan was to run off the start with him then push on his line between the tire and the jump to set up the chute.  It was a very flat line out from the chute to the next jump so I decided to handle the chute with him on my left then cross once he had picked up the line to the jump.  There were a ton of off courses at the 180 to the table.  People were driving the line out of the tunnel and if they got the turn it was not sharp enough to get the correct jump.  I moved a little lateral and slowed down a bit and Pip read the turn.. perhaps a little wide and that is where my verbal should have been used (bad handler...)  Pip seemed to have no trouble with the triple in the middle of the course whcih is why I put this video up.  I think that the knocking of the last jump is a consequence of me being so worried about what might happen if I drive him into a waiting crowd of dogs.  Wisp has taught him alot namely not to take staring so personally!!!  ...elizabeth

Pippen is looking like an ace, ;-). Focus is great throughout the run and your handling choices are very good with solid implementation. Good job!

I am glad to read that you thought you lacked a verbal cue support to help maximize Pippen's turn on the 180 to the table. I think you are right, though it wasn't a bad turn in the first place..

I really have to train myself to use my verbals. I think I need to rehearse using them when I walk the course. I practice at the warm up jump using them ... then ....i run without. 'I need to learn to *run* my mouth!!! ....sorry I could not resist the bad joke!!!   elizabeth

Elizabeth,

Jokes aside, when walking the course, you should rehearse all your voice cues, as you rehearse your hand signals and body positions. Once you make a habit of doing that, you will acquire a habit of spitting out correct verbal cues at the right time with the right tone of voice, ;-)..
